Listening Blog; Week 9

For this week's listening blog, I have chosen to listen to the song "Hotel California" by The Eagles. This song is not new to me because my entire family loves this band. They recently just planned to go see them play live at the Hollywood Bowl in 2020. This song for someone first listening to it, is a really good listen. I think that the melody of this song is really peaceful and deep but at the same time has a mellow and gentle feel to it. Don Henley the lead singer of the band said "I guess you could say it's a song about loss of innocence. ... our interpretation of the high life in Los Angeles, and later said: It's basically a song about the dark underbelly of the American dream and about excess in America, which is something we knew a lot about". This makes sense when you listen to the lyrics of this song. It starts out with an opening of a dark desert highway, then goes to a mission where a woman says that this place could be heaven or this could be hell. I think that goes to show what Don Henley was saying about the song. Los Angeles is called the city of angels because so much greatness can happen but also it can be very dangerous and claim lives. Especially if someone is living the lifestyle of a rock star in a successful band such as the Eagles. I personally enjoy Don Henley's "Boys Of Summer" but i think this song is a really good one and portrays a good picture of the high life of LA.

  1. I also chose this song to write about for my blog! It's a great song and I really like the long intro. I also read about the interpretation of the song talking about the life one might live as a celebrity in that part of the United States! Great post, I love the song but like you said, the song isn't and probably shouldn't be new to anyone out there!

  2. I also choose this song for my blog, this is such a good song and it all fits together so well and it has a catchy beat to it and I also think it is a song that shouldn't be new to very many people and I think that shows how popular and good of song it is that other people know it so well and like it so much. Its one of those songs that tells things and how stuff is not just music and words that don't make sense.

  3. I really like this song. Its cool that your whole family has a connection to this song and band. I really like this song and have some great memories of the song. The quote from the lead singer really gives new meaning to the song and helps to visualize more the story behind it all.
