Listening Blog 5; week 6
For this
week's listening blog I chose to listen to "La Bamba" by Ritchie
Valens. I really love this song and the beat and sounds it has. Like many great
musicians, Ritchie Valens died way too young and before the general public got
to hear his full potential. The upbeat sound and tune of this song is what I
think is a driving force for this song. It has been used in a numerous amounts
of movies, television shows, and has a great number of covers as well. This
song reminds me of summer and having a good time and being carefree. I think
the talent that Ritchie Valens had was something that was one of a kind. Along
with Buddy Holly, we were unable to experience the full spectrum of Ritchie
Valens' music. Some people are put on this Earth for a short time and in that
short time will achieve more notoriety than some that will be on this Earth for
many years. In the case of Ritchie Valens and the song "La Bamba", I
think that was the case. This song is amazing. From start to finish, you can
hear the upbeat guitar, and a deeper bass in the background and then his voice
grabs ahold of you. Regardless if you can understand Spanish, the song has a
good feeling and is overall one of my favorites of all time. I think that during the time he was playing this song or during the time he recorded it, he had a feeling of pride and passion that was unmatched and unheard of in that era.
I really enjoyed reading about your love for this song! I agree that what he left on earth is much greater than many will do with more time because I think a lot of people would agree that this song is about having a good time and being care free.
ReplyDeleteI haven't listened to any songs by Ritchie Valens but if his song was used in many movies, tv shows, and music covers, he must be very talented. I think its sad he wasnt able to reach his full potential but I think thats just another reason to appreciate the pieces of work he left behind.
ReplyDeleteI agree that it is sad that he died so young when his potential in his singing was so good and how it would just catch people and suck them into his music its good to hear how much people like his music and all of his work.
