Listening Blog 4; Week 5
For this week five listening blog, I chose to listen to "Mambo Italiano" by Rosemary Clooney. When I first started listening to this song, I did not think it would turn into the classic "Mambo Italiano". The beginning seems to start out slow and then after a few lines switches up and speeds it up. This song has been redone and remade many times but the original was not what I was expecting at all. The song mentioning going back to Napoli because the girl missed the sea. I listened to the song multiple times and I still don't really know what she is saying throughout the entire song but I feel like she is singing about being Italian, the food, but also dancing. So all in all it is about Italian Pride in my opinion. When she is singing she says something about no more mozzarella and to try an enchilada or something of that nature so that is what makes me think it is more about the Italian Culture and being Italian. The translation of Mambo Italiano is just Italian Mambo. I remember my sisters used to sing this song all the time growing up because of a movie called "Mermaids" I think with Cher, Wynona Ryder, and thats all I can remember. However, in this movie there was a part where the entire family sings "Mambo Italiano" and so I think of my sisters when I hear the song. Overall I think the song was a really good song. For the time it was made, I think it could have blazed a trail for future song writers singing about their culture. The tempo started out slow, but quickly increased and the rest of the song was a good pace and good beat. This classic song was a really fun song to listen to and analyze for this week's listening blog.
I really liked your comment about paving the way for artists to sing about their cultures, I never thought about that while listening to these songs. Nice observations about the whole song overall as well.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you on this song that it is a very good song to listen too. I love this song because it has that Italiano twist which most of my family is Italian so I can connect to it.
