Listening Blog 3; Week 4
For week 4 listening blog I chose to listen to "In the Mood" by Glenn Miller. I really enjoyed this song. The song felt very happy and warm. I can see why they chose to name it, "in the mood". I liked the constant melody but then toward the end of the song he changes it up a little bit. He adds more belting of the instruments but also goes from slower to faster as well. The entire song feels like it was made to be a happy song that everyone can jam out and dance to. The time frame I get from listening to this was definitely back in the 60s. I can imagine this being played by a band at a horse race or at a summer party in Georgia. I tend to try and get submerged by the music and let it take me back to the time where it was created. I think to fully understand a song, or any music for that matter, you have to let yourself get lost in the time it was created. For more popular music in today's culture I think that is harder to do because there isnt as much passion as there was back in the earlier times of music. Overall i really enjoyed listening to this song. I think Glenn Miller hit the mark on this tune and his execution of the song from start to finish was very well thought out. The different uses and sounds he gets from all the instruments really ties everything together in my opinion.
I really liked how you described where this song might be played during the time frame. And I agree how music now a days seems to have less passion. And I am curious to see how fast the tempo becomes. Overall, a very in depth analysis of "In the Mood."
ReplyDeleteI listened to this song too and had some similar thoughts about how it's happy and warm. I liked this song quite a bit and I didn't feel bored like I did with some of the others. I also like how he changes it up and mixes different elements into the song, which makes it much easier to keep focus and enjoy the song!
